Real Madrid ‘studying’ Miguel Gutiérrez return ahead of summer

The powers that be at Real Madrid are keeping a watchful eye on the development of Miguel Gutiérrez at Girona. This comes ahead of a potential move to bring the defender back to the club with a view to the 2024/25 campaign.

Gutiérrez, for his part, secured a permanent departure from Spain’s capital back in the summer of 2022.

After managing nine La Liga appearances in the colours of Los Blancos, the left-back opted for pastures new in a bid to rack up more consistent playing time.

And, to his credit, Gutiérrez has since gone on to manage precisely that.

After managing 34 league appearances last time out, the 22-year-old has proven an integral member of Girona’s backline this season, too, featuring from the off in all but one of the club’s outings amid a shock push for the La Liga title.

And yet, the prospect of a potential return to the aforementioned Real Madrid looms large.

Los Merengues maintain 50% of Gutiérrez’s playing rights, meaning a deal similar to that struck for Fran García during the summer could be sought out for the Spanish youth international at some point down the line, too.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, this option may yet be made a priority by Florentino Pérez and co. as soon as this summer.

It is of course common knowledge that Real are on the hunt for reinforcements at left-back with a view to next season.

Amid struggles in their ongoing efforts to land no.1 target Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich, though, the Bernabéu brass could turn to Gutiérrez as a fall-back target.

That’s according to José Félix Díaz of Marca, who has today provided an update on developments behind the scenes in Madrid.

Díaz points towards the Gutiérrez track being ‘studied’ closely, amid genuine consideration on Real’s part to activating their buyback clause.
