Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has issued a response to the harsh reception afforded to he and his teammates by the club’s fans on Tuesday.
This comes after the Blancos faithful again made clear their unhappiness with the level of performance being showcased by their side at present.
Real Madrid kicked their European campaign into gear earlier this evening, welcoming Italian heavyweights Inter Milan to the Spanish capital for a League Phase showdown in the Champions League.
When all was said and done in an all-action affair, the hosts emerged narrow victors, by two goals to one.
Their victory, however, proved far from straightforward, with Inter having dominated lengthy stretches of the game and controlled possession throughout.
Amid their side’s all too often passive showing, the home crowd at the Santiago Bernabéu in turn took aim at José Mourinho’s players with boos, whistles and jeers on several occasions.
And of the opinion that such an outcry was fully justified is Blancos captain Federico Valverde. Drawn on the boos after being named Man of the Match on Tuesday, midfielder Valverde insisted:
“The fans were absolutely right to boo us. We need to improve.”
