Barcelona boss Flick provides Frenkie de Jong update

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an update on the wellbeing of midfield star Frenkie de Jong.

Dutchman De Jong was for his part condemned to a fresh spell on the sidelines earlier this summer. After reporting back to Catalunya’s capital following the World Cup, the 29-year-old was revealed to have suffered a serious knee injury.

The parties, from here, opted for conservative treatment, in the hopes of De Jong’s knee healing through hands-on work and specific workout routines.

The former Ajax man has since not progressed quite as quickly as hoped, with De Jong still dealing with pain when running.

Speaking during an exchange with the media this week, the aforementioned Hansi Flick was therefore asked for the latest on the situation of his engine room standout. And the update proved to be an encouraging one, as Barca’s headmaster assured:

“I hope to count on Frenkie de Jong soon, maybe after the break. Frenkie is a great player, of quality and who is evolving well from his injury, working as expected.”
