Real Madrid star Dean Huijsen has provided an explanation for his choice of squad number in Los Blancos’ first-team setup for the season ahead.
This comes as the young stopper aims to follow in the footsteps in one of the greatest players in the storied history of Real Madrid.
Huijsen of course landed in Spain’s capital in the summer of 2025. After lighting up the Premier League during a solitary year in the colours of Bournemouth, the 21-year-old returned to his home country in a big-money Bernabéu switch.
Huijsen went on to endure something of a hit-and-miss debut campaign in La Liga, showcasing his evident talent, but also looking raw and clumsy on more than one occasion.
As alluded to above, though, as much has evidently not dented the youngster’s confidence in his abilities…
Afforded the chance to take on a new shirt number this week, Huijsen opted for the responsibility of Real Madrid’s iconic no.4. And the one-time Juventus starlet has since gone on to confirm that Sergio Ramos was the inspiration behind his decision:
“He’s my idol, an absolute reference for me.”
