Real Madrid respond to Mauro Icardi transfer links

Real Madrid have issued a response to the club’s ongoing links with Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi.

The name of frontman Icardi has of course taken its place centre stage in the media headlines in Madrid over the course of the last week.

This comes after surprise reports were forthcoming, pointing towards the Argentine emerging as a leading January target on the part of Los Blancos.

Amid a mounting injury list, the powers that be at the Santiago Bernabéu are understood to be eyeing fresh blood in the attacking third with a view to the 2nd half of the season.

And Icardi, already boasting a record of 15 goals in 20 appearances in Turkey this term, has been tipped as one potential cut-price option.

Not only that, but, whilst speaking to Diario AS over the weekend, Icardi’s agent, Elio Letterio Pino, went as far as to claim that he is locked in talks with Florentino Pérez and co.

“I’m in Madrid. Real Madrid have not made an offer for Icardi. They haven’t made an official offer yet, but we are speaking with club officials.”

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to by, however, then such a move actually coming to fruition looks altogether unlikely.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of Real themselves – as cited by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano – that they are not in ‘active talks’ to bring Icardi in.
