Gavi undergoes surgery: how long will the Barcelona midfielder be out for?

Earlier this morning Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gavi underwent surgery in Barcelona. The operation was carried out by trauma surgeon Joan Carles Monllau on a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The operation took three hours and was completed “satisfactorily”, as stated in the club’s statement, which did not indicate how long he will be out for, but according to sources consulted by AS, it will be no less than eight months, confirming that he will miss the rest of the 2023-24 season with the Blaugrana as well as Euro 2024 with La Roja.

To begin with, he will have two weeks of complete rest at home to reduce the swelling in his knee after the operation. If everything goes as planned for the young Spaniard and there are no major setbacks, Gavi could return for pre-season next summer.
