Real Madrid readying left-back overhaul as Davies could be followed by 2nd summer signing

The powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid could completely overhaul the club’s left-back ranks over the course of the coming 12 months.

That’s according to Relevo, who have today provided the latest on developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge that Real have set their sights firmly on Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies who, beyond Kylian Mbappé, is considered the club’s priority target for the summer.

And yet, the reinforcements on the left side of Carlo Ancelotti’s backline may not end there.

This comes with Relevo having confirmed that the return of Miguel Gutiérrez is gaining momentum amongst the transfer team at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Defender Gutiérrez, for his part, is currently on the books of Girona, but Real Madrid maintain both a 50% sell-on clause, and €8 million buyback option on the former Castilla talent.

And, with Gutiérrez having proven one of the standout performers in an overachieving Girona squad under the watch of Míchel this season, Los Blancos view activating their buyback clause as an excellent market opportunity.

The 22-year-old himself is also keen on the prospect of a return to his former club, despite Alphonso Davies’ impending arrival.

With Ferland Mendy expected to be on the move to make way for Davies, it is currently unclear what the future holds for Fran García beyond the summer.

But in the case of García staying put, Gutiérrez could be sent back on loan to Girona for the 2024/25 campaign, where he would have European football to look forward to, before returning to base in Madrid boasting yet more top-level experience in the summer of 2025.
