Real Madrid track Benfica defender António Silva

Real Madrid reportedly have their sights on strengthening their backline for next season, and although they in theory had Croatia centre-back Josko Gvardiol as their number one target, Mundo Deportivo report via Record that Benfica’s young Portuguese centre-back António Silva has emerged as the main alternative.

Silva is 19 years old and stands out for his height (1.87m), which allows him to be strong in the air. He also possesses great ball control and calmness when playing. The Portuguese defender has been making steady progress since he made his Benfica debut on 27 August 2022.

His strong performances have seen him established himself as a starter in the side and despite his young age, he received a call-up from the Portugal national team to play at the 2022 World Cup, where he played 90 minutes in the third match of the group stage. With a contract at Benfica until 2027, he is currently valued at €15m by Transfermarkt.
