Real Madrid make Xabi Alonso contact

The powers that be at Real Madrid have already made contact with Xabi Alonso, regarding a potential future return to the club.

That’s according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, who has on Sunday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The name of tactician Alonso has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital over the course of the last 48 hours.

This comes after the former Real midfielder announced his decision to stay put with Bayer Leverkusen for next season:

“There’s been a lot of talk about my future over the last few weeks. We had a lot of matches, a lot of objectives and we had to focus. During this break, I had something to think about and I had time. I made my decision, last week, I had a good discussion with the board. I told them that I will continue to be the coach of this team next season.”

Alonso, it is understood, turned down approaches from all of Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea to prolong his stint in the dugout at the BayArena.

And yet, Leverkusen themselves will not be the only ones overjoyed by as much.

So too, it would appear, will be the brass at the aforementioned Real Madrid.

As per Foot Mercato, Blancos president Florentino Pérez recently made contact with Alonso, to make clear the club’s appreciation for his stellar exploits this season.

Not only that, but the prospect of replacing Carlo Ancelotti on the bench at the Bernabéu in the near future was also floated.

With a move to the likes of Bayern or Liverpool this summer having been likely to put an end to such a possibility, a reunion between Real and Alonso, as things stand, remains very much on the cards.
