Real Madrid leaning towards Lucas Vázquez contract renewal

As reported by Matteo Moretto, Real Madrid are looking to extend Lucas Vázquez’s contract by one more year and the club are becoming convinced every day to offer him a new proposal. Vázquez is already thinking about his plans at the end of the season, but is waiting for an offer from Los Blancos before deciding his future.

The Spaniard has tipped the balance in his favour with his performances in recent weeks. His professionalism and adaptability, when manager Carlo Ancelotti has needed him most, has increased the chance of him playing for the Spanish giants next season.

In the last few matches, Carvajal has been moved to centre-back and has thrived in this unfamiliar position for the player. This season he played 23 matches, scoring one goal and notching four assists.

The Galician is happy in the Spanish capital, even though this season he has not played as many minutes as he would have liked. Currently, he is deciding whether to try a new journey at another club, where he will have a more prominent role in a team during the final stretch of his career.

Although the La Liga leaders want to strengthen the full-back area, they would ideally want the 32-year-old to stay and offer competition in the position and also continue to have his strong dressing room presence. Ancelotti views the player as a reference point in the dressing room for the team’s youngsters.

The defender put pen to paper on a renewal in 2021, which committed him to the club until 2024 with a significant salary increase. Initially, the club were contemplating whether to offer him one more season or let him leave, but given his performance and off the field presence, the idea of keeping him at the Bernabéu is now gaining momentum.
