Real Madrid file complaint after referee ignores racist abuse allegations in report

Real Madrid have filed a complaint against the referee Juan Martinez Munuera for omitting alleged racist abuse towards Vinicius Jr from his match report.

Osasuna have denied there were any racist chants from their fans, while Madrid say the “insults and vexatious shouts” were “deliberately” left out of the referee’s match report. On Tuesday, Osasuna released a club statement, which denies accusations of racist chanting towards the Los Blancos star.

The statement said: “Given the information published in the media following the statement from the Real Madrid Football Club and which relate El Sadar to racist behaviour, Club Atlético Osasuna wishes to clarify that no racist chant was uttered in last Saturday’s match.”

Vinicius has been the subject of racist abuse on multiple occasions in Spain in recent seasons. In a club statement, Madrid have demanded necessary measures to be taken in order to eradicate this abuse.

Real said: “The referee voluntarily and deliberately omitted the insults and vexatious shouts directed repeatedly towards our player Vinicius Jr, despite these being insistently pointed out by our players at the very moment when they were taking place.

“Real Madrid once again condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hatred, and demands that the necessary measures be taken, once and for all, to eradicate the violence that our player Vinicius Junior has been suffering.”

The 23-year-old winger scored a brace in Madrid’s 4-2 win over Osasuna on a Saturday.
