La Liga boss tips Barcelona to knock PSG out of Champions League

Xavi’s Barcelona have this week been sent a message of support in their endeavours to book a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The message in question comes courtesy of another of La Liga’s tacticians, in the form of Pepe Mel.

Spaniard Mel secured a return to the bench in his home country just last week, taking up the reins at bottom-of-the table Almería.

And he went on to enjoy the perfect start to life in Andalusia, guiding his new troops to victory over Las Palmas on Sunday – the Indálicos’ very first three-point haul of the campaign.

In high spirits as squads across Spain split up for the international break, Mel, in turn, was today asked for his take on La Liga’s remaining contestants on the continent.

Specifically, the 61-year-old was drawn on his thoughts on the aforementioned Barcelona’s chances of sending French champions Paris Saint-Germain packing from the Champions League.

And Mel, during an interview with RAC1, went on to confirm his belief that, ‘if they do things right’, Barca have every chance of getting the better of PSG:

“I really like Xavi’s team, Barça have good players in every position, but they’ve been unlucky with injuries. That’s part of the sport. Barça have a lot of potential, and they have a good chance of beating Paris if they do things right.”
