Real Madrid extend lead at top of La Liga table

Real Madrid moved eight points clear at the top of the table with a convincing 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday night.

Mikel Oyarzabal gave La Real an early lead from the spot, smashing his penalty past Thibaut Courtois.

Eduardo Camavinga and Luka Modric then both scored from 25 yards to give Madrid a deserved lead before half-time.

Modric’s goal was set up by Karim Benzema and the Croatian hit the far top corner with a stunning left-footed strike.

Benzema, who had two goals ruled out for offside, sent Remiro the wrong from the penalty spot to make it 3-1 to Los Blancos in the 76th minute.

Substitute Marco Asensio, scored the fourth goal just three minutes later to put the game to bed for Madrid after being assisted by a Dani Carvajal cross from the byline.

Madrid midfielder Casemiro spoke to Movistar+ after the game. “It’s a pleasure playing alongside Modric and also Kroos. Modric looks after himself, trains properly, and works so hard,” Casemiro said.

Up next for Madrid is PSG in the Champions League last 16 second leg on Wednesday.
