PLAYER RATINGS | Real Madrid 4-1 Real Sociedad, league leaders Madrid prove too strong for Real Sociedad

La Liga 2021/22, Matchday 27 – 5/3/22

REAL MADRID – 4 (Camavinga 40, Modric 43, Benzema 76, Asensio 79)

Thibaut Courtois, 6 – Couldn’t do anything about Oyarzabal’s excellent penalty.

Dani Carvajal, 5 – Gave away the penalty and has lost his confidence since suffering from injuries and conceding a penalty against PSG. Redeemed himself late on by setting up Marco Asensio to score Madrid’s fourth of the night.

David Alaba, 6

Eder Militao, 7

Ferland Mendy, 6

Casemiro, 7

Luka Modric, 8 – Scored a wondergoal to give Madrid the lead before half-time, his usual self in the middle of the park, controlling the game at his own pace. Came off to a standing ovation.

Eduardo Camavinga, 7 – Scored to put Madrid back in the game with a well-hit effort from 25 yards. Got his chance in midfield with Kroos and Valverde out and took it with both hands.

Rodrygo, 6 – Madrid looked for the Brazilian more than his compatriot Vinicius on the other wing. Could have scored too but Remiro denied him from close range

Karim Benzema, 8 – Teed up Modric for his stunning strike, had two goals ruled out for offside and scored Madrid’s third goal from the spot. The France international has 20 goals in La Liga this season.

Vinicius, 6 – Quiet in the first half as Madrid played down the right with Carvajal and Rodrygo. Improved in the second half as Madrid pushed on.

Subs: Asensio 8, Ceballos 5, Mariano 5, Lucas Vázquez 5.

REAL SOCIEDAD – 1 (Oyarzabal 10)

Alex Remiro, 6 – Kept his side in the game on more than one occasion, saving well from Rodrygo and Benzema.

Jon Pacheco, 5

Robin Le Normand, 5

Igor Zubeldia, 5

Joseba Zaldua, 4

Andoni Gorosabel, 4 – Struggled to deal with Madrid doubling up down the right.

Asier Illarramendi, 4 – Gave away several free-kicks, going to ground on more than one occasion. Not the return to the Bernabéu he would have wanted.

Mikel Merino, 6 – Was excellent against Mallorca on Wednesday but struggled with the quality of Casemiro, Camavinga and Modric in the middle.

David Silva, 6 – Made the penalty after he found space and was found fouled by Carvajal.

Mikel Oyarzabal, 6 – Scored a superb penalty, giving Courtois no chance and putting La Real ahead after just 10 minutes.

Alexander Isak, 7 – A tireless performance from the Sweden international, constantly tracking back and leading the line as La Real counter attacked.

Subs: Rafinha 5, Djouahra 4, Elustondo 3, Zubimendi 5, Sorloth 5.
