Real Madrid decide on Toni Kroos’ set-piece replacement

The coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid have reached a definitive decision on the player set to take over from Toni Kroos as the club’s first-choice set-piece taker moving forward.

That’s according to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, who points towards Rodrygo as the chosen one.

The subject of the next man up in the set-piece pecking order something of a headline talking point in Spain’s capital across the summer to date.

This comes after the aforementioned Toni Kroos, the man who has taken charge of as much for the best part of the last decade, opted to call time on his career.

Carlo Ancelotti and co, as a result, were left with a decision to make…

The likes of Luka Modrić, Arda Güler, Federico Valverde and more are all considered to boast the necessary qualities to stand over free-kicks and corners in Real Madrid’s squad.

However, it is another who has been decided upon as the best choice.

As per aforementioned Blancos insider Guillermo Rai of The Athletic:

‘Now that Toni Kroos has retired, Ancelotti’s staff have decided Rodrygo should replace him on dead balls.’

As much was made evident over the course of the last week in training, with Brazilian international Rodrygo having repeatedly been requested to oversee set-pieces during match situations, in preparation for his new role.
