Real Madrid advance to last 16 of Champions League as group leaders

Real Madrid finished top of Group D with a 2-0 win over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday night.

Goals in either half from Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side win the group by five points.

Kroos opened the scoring with a well-taken left-footed strike from outside the box in the first half. Asensio sealed the victory for Los Blancos with a fine curling effort into the far top corner off the net.

Nicolò Barella was sent off for the Serie A outfit midway through the second half. Inter advance to the last 16 alongside Madrid. The other game in Group D ended in a 1-1 draw between Shakhtar Donetsk and Sheriff.
