Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis on Sunday secured for themselves an altogether noteworthy piece of club history. This came courtesy of their latest victory.
Betis marked their return to action earlier this evening, welcoming Osasuna to Sevilla for a La Liga clash.
When all was said and done, the Verdiblancos emerged on the right side of a 5-2 result, courtesy of goals on the part of all of Isco (2), Abde Ezzalzouli, Diego Llorente and José Antonio Morante.
This kept alive what has been nothing short of a brilliant opening to the new campaign on Betis’ part, with the Andalusians sitting joint-2nd in the La Liga table alongside Atlético Madrid.
So impressive have Pellegrini’s side been over the last couple of months, in fact, that they now own a special piece of club history…
As revealed by statistician Fran Martinez:
‘Real Betis achieve the BEST start in ALL of their HISTORY in Primera División (19 points, surpassing the 17 from 1996/97).
‘With 6 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, they EQUAL the start of the 1934/35 season in which they finished as CHAMPION.’
