RB Leipzig dealt concerning injury blow ahead of Real Madrid return leg

Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig could be without the services of a key member of the club’s backline, for their upcoming Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.

This comes amid confirmation that star defender Lukas Klostermann has picked up an injury.

Stopper Klostermann, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Leipzig’s 2-0 downing of Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

The club’s supporters, in turn, had since been left to wait for an update on the status of the 27-year-old with bated breath.

And, as alluded to above, on Monday afternoon, precisely that has been forthcoming.

As per an official statement across Leipzig’s website and social media platforms, Klostermann has been diagnosed with a ‘muscle injury to his right thigh’.

The German international, as a result, is facing up to ‘a spell on the sidelines’.

As much, of course, throws Klostermann’s availability for his side’s return to European action in a little over two weeks’ time up in the air.

Marco Rose’s troops are set to make the trip to Spain on March 6th, for the 2nd leg of the club’s Champions League Last-16 tie with La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

Trailing by a goal to nil, however, Leipzig’s efforts to turn the tie around could well be dented, by the absence of an absolutely integral figure in the Germans’ defensive ranks.
