RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder has this weekend provided a fresh insight into the future of star man Dani Olmo.
As much, of course, comes amid the ongoing efforts of La Liga giants Barcelona to lure the attacking midfielder away from the Red Bull Arena.
After coming up short in their pursuit of first-choice target Nico Williams, the focus of the Camp Nou brass has shifted firmly towards Olmo, in efforts to reinforce new boss Hansi Flick’s frontline.
An agreement on the terms of a contract is long understood to have been sewn up with the La Masia product, but, to date, no such accord has been found with RB Leipzig.
Speaking to the media this weekend, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Olmo’s future was put to the aforementioned Rouven Schröder once more.
And, during an interview with Sports1, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, Schröder, initially, was staunch in his response:
“Of course we know that other clubs are interested. But the fact is that we will not give up on a player like Dani Olmo at any price. Olmo left his mark on the tournament and wrote many positive headlines. We are happy to still have him in the team; from now on he will be back next week and will strengthen our team again.”
From here, though, the German went on to admit that he and his fellow directors are ‘preparing for the worst’:
“The transfer window has been open for about four weeks, so far there has been very little movement, only nuances. It may happen that there is real momentum again, but we have not set a deadline.
“We are relaxed and preparing for the worst. After all, that is our job.”
