Ramón Planes set to leave sporting director role at Getafe

Getafe are set to part ways with sporting director Ramón Planes, as reported by Marca.

Planes’ second period as sporting director for Getafe will come to an end early. The 55-year-old also worked for the club in the same role in the 2017/18 season, where he was instrumental alongside manager José Bordalás in achieving an impressive 8th-place finish only three points shy of Europa League qualification.

Planes has seen other successful runs in the past, such as with Tottenham Hotspur in 2014/15 and Barcelona in 2020/21. He is fondly remembered for securing the signings of Pedri and Ronald Araújo for the Blaugrana.

While Getafe began the season with terrible results and dropped near the relegation zone, the team’s form has improved of late.Planes and manager Quique Sánchez Flores had a shaky relationship that got tense in the last few months, but the two were capable of setting their differences aside for the best interests of the club, as shown by the results.

Many teams across Spain and Europe are probing the possibilities of signing the now free-agent sporting director, but all signs point to Real Betis being the ones to secure his signature. Los Heliopolitanos intend to build a new project around Planes.
