Xavi would like to see World Cup winner Juan Foyth at Barcelona

Barcelona want to sign a right-back position ahead of the 2023-23 season, as reported by Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo. The top names on the club’s shortlist include defenders Benjamin Pavard, Thomas Meunier and Diogo Dalot.

Head coach Xavi has an alternative in mind. He considers Argentina international Juan Foyth as the best option going forward, but the La Liga club are currently unwilling to grant the manager his wish. The 25-year-old Argentinian is under contract with Villarreal until 2026 and may therefore be too expensive for Barça, who are struggling financially.

Unfortunately for the Blaugrana, Dalot and Pavard are both on the verge of contract renewals at their respective clubs, putting them out of reach for Barça. Meunier remains one of the few feasible alternatives, as the 31-year-old Belgian will be out of contract with Borussia Dortmund in 2024 and was close to signing for Barcelona in January 2022.
