Iñigo Martínez has been linked with a move away from Athletic Club to Barcelona for the past couple of months.
The 31-year-old is one of the most important players at Los Leones this season and he has been a regular starter since his return from injury on September 11.
However, Martínez’s contract with Athletic Club is set to expire in June 2023 and there appears to be no sign of renewal talks taking place.
Nonetheless, in an interview that appeared on Mundo Deportivo, the Basque player dismissed any rumours linking him away from the club:
“There is a lot of blah blah blah and people talking without knowing. It’s in the hands of the club and my agent. I’m happy here.”
This past summer Martínez was close to a move to Barcelona, but no deal materialised between Athletic Club and the Blaugrana before deadline day. As we head closer to January, it appears as though he will continue being linked with a move away from San Mamés.
