PSG tell Lionel Messi they want to extend his contract for another year

Lionel Messi’s PSG contract expires in 2023 but the Parisian club want to keep him until 2024, according to a report in Marca.

Marca’s Parisian sources say that PSG have already informed Lionel Messi of their intention to offer him one more year.

What is the response from Messi and his entourage? It is still too early to respond to a proposal that has not been converted into a detailed offer.

Messi’s idea is to wait until after the World Cup. PSG believe that Messi can explode in his second season at the club and during the World Cup year.

The Ligue 1 champions are also aware of the effect the 35-year-old has off the pitch.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi told Marca that a large part of the €700 million generated by the club is related to Messi.

The Argentine’s arrival brought 10 new sponsorship deals in and as the club’s commercial director Marc Armstrong also commented, the agreements were higher with Messi involved.

“We have seen a growth in areas where we could reach agreements of between €3-5 million and now they are between €5-8 million, so the impact is considerable,” he said.
