Pichichi race: Jude Bellingham falls 2 goals off the pace

Fresh developments in the race for the Pichichi award were forthcoming in La Liga on Saturday.

As much came en route to Girona’s downing of Las Palmas.

After making the trip to Gran Canaria earlier this afternoon, Míchel’s Girona ultimately emerged on the right side of a comfortable 2-0 result.

Enough to guide the Blanquivermells clear of Catalan neighbours Barcelona into 2nd in the La Liga table, David López was first on target, before Artem Dovbyk rounded out the scoring just shy of the hour mark.

And, in the process, the latter extended his advantage atop the top-scorer chart in Spain’s top-flight.

In slotting home from the penalty spot against Las Palmas, Dovbyk made it five goals in his last four appearances, as well as 19 for the season all told.

This is two more than 2nd-placed Jude Bellingham, who sat out Real Madrid’s victory over Real Sociedad on Friday night amid struggles with a bout of Gastroenteritis.

The prestigious Pichichi prize continues to inch away from the capital, and towards Girona…
