Pep Guardiola provides Kevin De Bruyne update after dropping to bench vs Real Madrid

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the wellbeing of star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

As much, of course, comes after De Bruyne was a shock absentee from City’s starting XI to face Real Madrid.

The Sky Blues are currently locked in action with Carlo Ancelotti’s troops, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie between the clubs.

It is the evening’s hosts who boast the advantage as things stand, after Bernardo Silva’s opener was swiftly overturned by goals on the part of Eduardo Camavinga, and Rodrygo.

As alluded to above, though, City’s deficit on the scoresheet comes with perhaps the club’s most important player absent from the club’s line-up.

Upon the Premier League champions unveiling their side to face Real ahead of kick-off, Kevin De Bruyne was nowhere to be seen.

It was subsequently revealed that the Belgian was feeling under the weather, therefore dropped to the bench.

And boss Guardiola has since gone on to reveal that, in fact, De Bruyne went as far as to throw up in the locker room pre-match:

“He feels unwell. We had a meeting, he was ready, and when we arrived, in the locker room he started to vomit and he said: I’m not ready.”
