Pep Guardiola hails Carlo Ancelotti as king of the Champions League

Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti will be remembered as two of the most esteemed managers in modern football history. The pair have led Europe’s top-tier teams to their zenith, solidifying their status as football management icons.

Despite having crossed paths as rivals on multiple occasions during their illustrious careers, both coaches hold a deep mutual respect for each other’s accomplishments.

Recently, Manchester City’s head coach, in an interview with TNT Sports, discussed Ancelotti’s remarkable UEFA Champions League record and contemplated whether he could narrow the gap.

“I cannot beat him because I won one as a footballer but he has won three or four more,” Guardiola said. “You can never beat Ancelotti when it comes to Champions League trophies. I’m younger so I have more time but honestly, it is not a target.”

Ancelotti stands as the most successful manager in the history of the Champions League, boasting four titles to his name. Among these victories, two were achieved with AC Milan, while the other two were secured during his tenure at Real Madrid.
