Papu Gómez has explained how Diego Armando Maradona influenced him to sign for Sevilla.
“I have no idea why I chose Sevilla. It must be because a lot of Argentines played there and I was a team-mate of many of them. Probably also because of Maradona. You know that for Argentines, Maradona is a kind of God, and to wear the shirt of a club where Maradona wore it is a special affection. I surely had that special affection for Maradona,” he told the club’s official television channel.
