Lionel Messi has managed to contribute to more than 1,000 club goals (goals and assists combined), according to data provided by Transfermarkt.
Over the weekend, with the start of the new Ligue 1 season, Messi managed to score two goals and provide assist against Clermont in PSG’s 5-0 win. With these two goals and the assist, Messi surpassed 1,000 goal contributions at club level.
As reported by Diario AS, the vast majority of these goals and assists have come with Barcelona, where he has spent almost his entire career. The Argentine is the all-time top scorer in La Liga, with 474 goals, and he is the second highest scorer in the Champions League (123), only behind Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo (139).
Messi has always shown that, despite not being a centre forward, he is a great goalscorer. But as well as being one of the best goalscorers in history, he has also shown that he is one of the best at dishing out assists.
According to Transfermarkt, in the 812 games played for Barcelona and PSG, Messi has a total of 684 goals and 318 assists.
These numbers will continue to rise, as the domestic competitions have just started and 2022-23 will not be Messi’s last season.
