La Liga outfit Elche have on Friday announced a new permanent addition to the club’s midfield ranks.
This comes after the brass at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero made the call to extend Gonzalo Villar’s time with the club beyond the summer.
Midfielder Villar for his part secured a return to La Liga during the January transfer window.
After just six months in Croatia plying his trade with Dinamo Zagreb, the former Granada man was snapped up by the aforementioned Elche on a short-term basis.
Villar from here went on to play an important role for the Franjiverdes, notching 12 appearances as Eder Sarabia’s troops escaped relegation back to the 2nd tier of Spanish football.
And as alluded to above, the 28-year-old’s exploits along the way proved enough to convince those in the boardroom in Alicante of the merits of keeping hold of Villar for the long-term.
As per a statement across Elche’s website and social media platforms on Friday:
‘Elche CF has reached an agreement with GNK Dinamo Zagreb for the permanent transfer of midfielder Gonzalo Villar. The player from Murcia will remain with the club until June 2029, extending a period in which he has established himself as a
key player for the team.’
