Official: Barcelona youngster departs for La Liga rivals

An up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona has this week brought a close to his stint on the books of the Blaugrana. This comes amid confirmation that Alexis Olmedo has made the call to link up with La Liga rivals Celta Vigo.

Olmedo, for his part, is a 20-year-old defender, who chiefly operates in a central role, but is also more than capable of filling in at right-back.

The Spaniard has been plying his trade on the books of Barcelona since all the way back in 2013, honing his craft at the famed La Masia academy.

Now entering a crucial phase in his development into a senior footballer, however, it has become increasingly clear that Olmedo does not feature in the immediate plans of Hansi Flick and his staff.

As a result, the young stopper is understood to have made his way onto the radar of a number of Spanish clubs this summer. And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, one such suitor have pushed a deal for his services over the line.

As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

‘Barcelona have reached an agreement with RC Celta for the transfer of Manresa centre-back Alexis Olmedo. The Club reserves a percentage of any future sale.’
