La Liga giants Barcelona have early this week announced a fresh addition to the club’s defensive ranks at reserve team level.
The latest player to have put pen to paper on terms in Catalunya’s capital? Josué Caicedo.
Caicedo, for those not familiar with his name, is an 18-year-old defender, who chiefly takes to the pitch at left-back. The starlet has spent the early years of his fledgling career developing on the books of LDU Quito, in his home country of Ecuador.
Despite his tender years, Caicedo had long broken onto the first-team picture at the club, sparking attention from a number of clubs across the water in Europe.
And as alluded to above, on Monday, one such suitor have beaten out the competition to close a deal for Caicedo’s signature.
As per a statement on the official website of Spanish champions Barcelona:
‘FC Barcelona and LDU Quito have reached an agreement for the loan of Josué Caicedo to Barça Atlètic for the 2026/27 season. The 18-year-old Ecuadorian footballer joins the Barça reserve team with an option to buy at the end of the season and will strengthen the squad managed by Juliano Belletti in the Segunda Federación.’
