A major update on the future of Barcelona star Pedri has come to the fore on Tuesday afternoon.
And the news will no doubt be met with widespread concern on the part of the club’s supporter-base.
The name of midfielder Pedri, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya once more over the course of the last 48 hours.
After being afforded a starting berth in Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with Athletic Club on Sunday, Pedri lasted just 45 minutes, before succumbing to a thigh injury.
Spotted in tears on the Blaugrana bench at San Mamés, it has since been revealed that the 21-year-old is expected to miss between five and six weeks of action.
This comes with Pedri having suffered a relapse of a previous muscle tear, for the 2nd time since August.
The blow could not come at a much worse time for Barcelona, ahead of next week’s Champions League Last-16 2nd leg showdown with Italian champions Napoli.
And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, it would appear that the patience of the powers that be at the Camp Nou with the fitness woes of their midfield starlet is beginning to wear thin.
Pedri, for his part, has now featured in only a little over half of Barca’s fixtures over the course of the last three seasons.
With his latest setback having left all at the club in a state of shock, owing to the sheer amount of time and resources put into avoiding as much, legitimate worries over Pedri’s long-term prospects have begun to spread.
And, as per a report from Javier Miguel of Diario AS, as much could yet see Deco and his team of directors in Catalunya take into account the sale of their engine room star:
‘Right now, all scenarios are being considered and none are ruled out, not even a possible sale in the summer.’
