As Onda Vasca have reported, Athletic Club have started talks over extending Nico Williams’ contract at the club. Negotiations will take place in the coming weeks with the aim of securing the future of the forward.
Williams has had a tough time off the field in recent weeks. The Spain international decided to delete his social media accounts after the insults he received after the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Osasuna.
Athletic gave their fans a surprise recently when they announced that Oihan Sancet, one of the club’s best players, signed a new deal until 30 June 2032. The nine-year contract sees the talented midfielder commit his future to the Basque side long-term.
The objective of the Athletic board is to renew Oihan Sancet and Williams. Athletic have reportedly spoken to Williams’ agent about signing the player on a long-term deal, but the Williams family and player’s entourage want to take their time, give him time to focus on the rest of the season, and will then take everything into consideration together. The 20-year-old’s current deal at the club runs until 30 June 2024.
