New name added to Sevilla managerial shortlist

A new name has been added to the shortlist of candidates to take up the reins at La Liga outfit Sevilla with a view to next season.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Estadio Deportivo, who have today provided a fresh insight into developments behind the scenes in Andalusia.

Speculation surrounding the bench at Sevilla has of course begun to mount over the course of recent weeks.

This comes amid claims that Quique is inching towards the exit door.

Though the Spaniard has done a solid job in guiding the Nervionenses away from the La Liga relegation zone, his relationship with sporting director Víctor Orta is a fractured one.

Quique’s continuation into next season, as a result, is far from assured, with the brass at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán having already begun work towards sourcing a replacement.

To date, the likes of Diego Martínez, Jagoba Arrasate, Javi Gracia and Paulo Fonseca have all been tipped for the role.

And, as alluded to above, this week, a new name has been added to the Sevilla watchlist.

The tactician in question? Javier Aguirre.

Aguirre, for his part, is due to see his terms with RCD Mallorca come to a close in the summer.

And, in the midst of an impressive campaign, which saw him come within a whisker of what would have been a historic triumph in the Copa del Rey, the 65-year-old has garnered for himself a number of admirers in the boardroom at Sevilla.
