Mikel Merino (28) is currently heavily rumoured to leave the San Sebastian club but was still pictured wearing Real Sociedad’s new kit for the upcoming season.
The midfielder has been linked with Arsenal, with Barcelona also being touted as a possible destination earlier this summer.
As per Diario AS, Merino was pictured as part of La Liga’s media day, with pictures of him smiling and posing with the club’s away kit for the upcoming season.
The man from Navarra only has 10 months remaining on his contract at La Real, throwing fuel onto the fire regarding rumours of a departure.
The video being released by the club itself also tells a tale, as they could have easily taken the precaution to edit Merino out should they not be confident that he might stay.
This news comes despite other players who are rumoured to depart not being included, including Robert Navarro who spent last season out on loan at Cádiz.
Right now, amidst fierce negotiations, the only people who truly understand where Merino’s future might lie are the player himself and the clubs involved.
It also remains to be seen whether the player’s inclusion in media photography perhaps tells a tale that the midfielder is one step closer to remaining at Real Sociedad for the season to come.
