Mikel Arteta hints Arsenal could rival Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappé

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta was today drawn on the possibility of the Gunners moving to bring in Kylian Mbappé this summer.

This, of course, comes fresh off the France international, on Thursday, confirming his intention to depart Paris Saint-Germain.

After deciding against extending his expiring terms, Mbappé is primed to link up with a new club this summer, as a free agent.

Widespread favourites to land the 25-year-old are La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid, who finally look set to secure their chief attacking target after a transfer saga spanning a full two years.

And yet, as alluded to above, this evening, the manager of another of Europe’s top clubs hinted that they, too, are keen on signing Mbappé.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Arsenal headmaster Mikel Arteta was asked if the Gunners should be considered as being in the conversation for the services of the explosive wide-man.

And Arteta was defiant in is response, adamant that his side always ‘need the best players’.

“Why not?,” the Spaniard began. “If we want to be the best team, we are going to need the best talent & the best players.”

“I am not involved,” he continued. “Maybe Edu and the owners are, I’m not in those conversations until the last stage.”
