Memphis Depay fails to show up for Barcelona training

Memphis Depay did not show up to train with the rest of his team-mates for Barcelona’s last training session prior to their Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Ceuta.

The Dutchman, whose future is still up in the air, was set to have a chat with head coach Xavi but didn’t show up at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Depay has been linked with a move to Atlético Madrid and looks to be trying to force his way out of Camp Nou but at the Catalan club, they say that they don’t know the reasons for the player’s absence from training, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“I have no news from Memphis. He’s a professional and I’m delighted with him. He is a good player for the dressing room. In principle I’m counting on him for everything,” Xavi said at a press conference before training.

The Barcelona boss admitted that he was due to talk to him before the session because they were coming back from two days off after winning the Spanish Super Cup. “If he wants to leave or not, it’s not an easy situation for him. Whether he wants to leave or not, I don’t know. I will discuss it with him.”

Ángel Alarcón was the newest addition to the session, while Frenkie de Jong is set to miss the Copa del Rey match. Barça travel to Ceuta tomorrow morning. They will fly to Málaga first thing in the morning, where they are expected to arrive at around 11.00 am, and then they will travel by helicopter to the venue for the match.
