Spain have been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup. Rodri spoke after La Roja lost to Morocco on penalties.
“It was decided on penalties, they were very clear about what they wanted to do. We don’t have much more to say in the end. The penalties didn’t work for us and we’re going home. I don’t know what else to say, I wish someone up there would have helped us with the penalties. When you give everything… the team gave everything and we deserved to go through,” he told La 1.
Marcos Llorente
“Anything can happen when it comes to penalties. It was very difficult, they were very tight at the back, the pitch wasn’t right either and they were very good at the back, very hard-working all of them.”
Sergio Busquets
“It was a shame. It was decided on penalties in the cruelest way. It was difficult, it was hard for us, we tried to wear them down, turn them over, find space… we lacked that bit of luck with the final ball. The important thing now is the national team and not me. It’s a difficult night and we have to pick ourselves up and use it as an experience for our football. There are very young players who will benefit a lot from this and we have to carry on.”
Unai Simón
“In the penalty shootout they were superior and that’s what got them to the quarter-finals. There have been surprises in the World Cup. We didn’t expect to go out against Morocco, but that’s the reality and we have to go home.”
