Mason Greenwood named Getafe’s Player of the Season

Mason Greenwood is named Getafe’s Player of the Season, with the Manchester United forward’s spell at the La Liga club now set to come to an end.

The Englishman arrived in Spain on deadline day last year and has made 36 appearances for Getafe this season, scoring 10 goals and notching six assists. Getafe wanted to extend Greenwood’s loan, however United who are now being led in a new sporting direction by INEOS and Sir Jim Radcliffe, are only interested in selling the player on a permanent basis.

This has now raised doubt about the player retuning to the club where he had a successful loan spell. The striker bid farewell to the Spanish club on Instagram and thanked the fans for their support over the course of the season.

He said: “Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my team-mates and club.

“A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you. I wish you all the best.”

Questions continue to mount over his future at Old Trafford with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2025. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are already working on plans to sell him this summer.

Active talks are taking place to find the best solution with United eager to make a profit on Greenwood’s sale. The situation is likely to progress in the next few weeks with many clubs interested in the player.

The left-footed attacker previously revealed that he was happy at Getafe, but it now appears that the situation has changed with several clubs from around Europe’s top league registering their interest in his services. Borussia Dortmund are keen on brining Greenwood to Germany on a permanent basis and are set to make a decision after this weekend’s Champions League final match against Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, recent reports revealed that Napoli had also made contact with the Premier League giants over a potential transfer.
