Marc-André ter Stegen: “We want de Jong to stay, but that’s up to the club”

In an interview that appeared on Marca following Barcelona’s game against the New York Red Bulls, Marc-André ter Stegen gave his views on the Frenkie de Jong contract and transfer saga.

The Blaugrana have just completed a pre-season tour of the United States before returning to Barcelona. However, transfer rumours will continue to circulate while the transfer window is still open.

Due to their financial constraints, the Spanish side are looking for ways to reduce Frenkie de Jong’s salary or sell him to another club altogether. Ter Stegen gave his opinion on the situation to the press:

“Obviously, we always want the best in the team. And he is just that, a player with a lot of quality and we want him to stay, but I don’t want to get involved in this, it’s the club’s issue.”

He also discussed what he thought of the new signings.

“They’re all going to help us. I don’t know Koundé. I hope he gets used to our playing style as soon as possible. We are convinced that all of our new signings are going to have a good year and will help us”.
