Manuel Pellegrini: “The best way to approach the Cup final is to win every league game convincingly.”

Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini has his sights firmly on their next LaLiga game against Osasuna.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Osasuna game, Pellegrini has emphasized the need to focus on each league game, and not get carried away in the wake of the Copa del Rey final.

“The Copa final is still 40 days away. We cannot think that far. The best approach to the final is to win each league game with convincing individual performances,” the Chilean told Diario de Sevilla.

Pellegrini does not want to depend on winning the Copa del Rey to qualify for Europe. Having returned to European competitions after finishing 6th last season, he is eager to make the Europa League once again. Sunday’s contest between Barcelona and Sevilla, who sit second and third, allows Betis a chance to close in on their rivals for the top four.

Despite being involved in all three competitions, Betis have progressively improved over their last season’s performance. For now, however, Pellegrini is only focused on each upcoming league game: “The most important thing is to beat Osasuna and then the next one.”

Pellegrini also voiced his disapproval of the decision to hold the FIFA World Cup in the months of November and December. “I would have kept the usual date. I understand the climatic conditions in Qatar, but it’s better not to divide the season in half.”
