Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement with Anderlecht for Sergio Gómez, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer fee will be close to €15m.
Initially, it was believed that Gómez would be sent out on loan for the upcoming season to Girona, another member of the City Football Group, however, it appears as though Pep Guardiola is counting on the left-back in Manchester City’s first team. He could fill the void left by Oleksandr Zinchenko, who departed the club to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Gómez, who arrived in Belgium in the 2021 summer transfer window, has been one of the recent revelations in Europe. Last season, he scored seven goals and provided 15 assists in 49 games played. A more than interesting talent who, at 21 years old, can grow a lot under Guardiola’s guidance.
Despite coming through La Masia, Gómez never made a single appearance for Barcelona’s senior team. His move to the Premier League could allow him to showcase what he is capable of at the highest level of English football.
