Luka Modrić the latest to drop out of Real Madrid Champions League squad

Real Madrid announced on Monday that Luka Modrić has been dropped from the squad for tomorrow’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig but the club did not explain the reasons for his absence.

“Luka Modrić won’t play in tomorrow’s Champions League group stage match between Real Madrid and Leipzig at the RB Arena. The Croatian had been named in Ancelotti’s squad for the game, but is a last-minute withdrawal and won’t be travelling with the team to Leipzig,” Madrid said in a statement.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the reasons are nothing more than muscular discomfort in the Croatian player’s adductor. It doesn’t seem serious, but Carlo Ancelotti has decided not to take him to Germany as a precaution.

Real Madrid already through

Los Blancos are already through to the last 16 of the Champions League and neither the coach nor the player wanted to take any risks.

Modrić is Ancelotti’s fifth absentee for the match against the Bundesliga side on Tuesday. Karim Benzema, Dani Ceballos, Fede Valverde and Mariano Díaz are all injured and have not travelled to Germany.
