Luis Enrique leaves role as Spain manager

Luis Enrique is no longer the head coach of the Spain national team.

“The RFEF would like to thank Luis Enrique and his entire coaching staff for their work at the helm of the senior national team over the last few years. Both the president, Luis Rubiales, and the sporting director, José Francisco Molina, have informed the coach of the decision taken,” the RFEF said in a statement on Thursday.

Luis Enrique’s achievements include three consecutive semi-finals in major tournaments – the European Championship and twice in the Nations League – as well as qualifying as group winners for the World Cup in Qatar.

His role with La Roja has ended after the elimination in the World Cup in the round of 16 against Morocco.

Luis de la Fuente has been announced as the new manager of the Spain national team.
