Lionel Messi has spoken in a joint interview in Paris with Mundo Deportivo and Sport in which he revealed his decision to join Inter Miami.
The Argentine forward wanted to be in control of his future, not having to wait like in 2021, for fear of another disappointment.
In the interview, he talks about life in Paris, his departure in 2021, which he describes as being very hard, and explains his reasons for not returning to Barça.
He also notes that he would like to return to Barça, although he does not know in what position.
How does Messi feel?
I feel good. I feel good, and calm, having finished the season. It was an atypical year because we played the World Cup in the middle. It made everything different. Now I’m thinking about the games with the national team and the holidays.
Now the season is over, you’re leaving Paris, but the numbers haven’t been bad. How do you feel at the end of your time at PSG?
With mixed feelings. The truth is that the first year was very difficult, as I have already said, for different reasons. The second year, the first six months, I felt very, very good, very comfortable at the club, in the city, with my family. I think the World Cup conditioned the season a lot. I had hoped to finish in a different way, but well, it was a difficult two years for me in general, but they are behind me now.
We’ve also come to talk about Barça…
Obviously, I followed them, I watched the games and I always missed the memories and being there.
The other key question. Knowing that you won’t be returning to Barcelona, where are you heading? To Saudi Arabia, which has also been mentioned? To Miami? To another place?
I’ve made the decision that I’m going to Miami, but I still don’t have it one hundred percent done. I’m still missing a few things…
This Miami thing is new. Are you taking Busquets there?
That’s one of the other things that was said, that I was going with Busi [Busquets] and Jordi [Alba] to Arabia, that we had it all sorted out. No, everyone looks after their own future. I was obviously keeping an eye on them and what they were going to do, but at no point did we ever agree to go anywhere together. I made my decision for myself and I don’t know what they are going to do.
