La Liga to file case over Atlético Madrid fan abuse of Vinícius Jr.

The Spanish football authorities are ready to file a formal complaint, over the disgusting abuse directed at Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. by a group of Atlético Madrid supporters on Wednesday.

Atlético, of course, marked their return to continental action last night, booking a spot in the Champions League’s quarter-finals at the expense of Italian giants Inter Milan.

Prior to proceedings getting underway at the Wanda Metropolitano, however, a contingent of Rojiblancos fans were caught on camera outside their side’s ground, taking aim at the aforementioned Vinícius in grim fashion.

The individuals in question chanted:

‘Alé Alé, Alé, Vinícius chimpanzee’

Vinícius, for his part, has already provided his public response to the chants, taking to social media on Thursday afternoon to call for La Liga and UEFA to take action.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, the former, at least, intend to do precisely that.

As per a report from COPE, despite the incident having played out in a competition outside their remit:

‘LaLiga is going to report the regrettable racist chants to the Hate Prosecutor’s Office’.
