Kylian Mbappé equals James Rodríguez benchmark in Real Madrid’s clash with Rayo Vallecano

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has on Saturday secured for himself a share of recent Blancos history. This comes owing to his efforts in the club’s latest outing.

José Mourinho’s troops are of course locked in action at present, in a La Liga meeting with Rayo Vallecano.

Real headed into proceedings with sights on a bounce-back result, after being condemned to a first defeat of the campaign at the hands of Real Betis last weekend.

And as things stand, all three points are precisely what the evening’s hosts are headed for, leading a listless Rayo by three goals to nil.

The aforementioned Mbappé has played a starring role in as much, first converting an early spot-kick, before laying on an assist for Álvaro Carreras to put his side two goals to the good.

And as alluded to above, in the process, the Frenchman equalled a recent benchmark at the Santiago Bernabéu. As per a report from statisticians Opta:

‘Kylian Mbappé is the first Real Madrid player to score and provide an assist within the first 17 minutes of a LaLiga match at the Bernabéu since James Rodríguez in January 2016 against Espanyol.’
