Thiago Alcântara has made the call not to continue in his behind-the-scenes role with La Liga giants Barcelona beyond the summer.
This comes with the former midfielder seemingly on the lookout for a more prominent position.
After bringing an early close to his playing career, Thiago for his part secured a return to Barcelona last September. The 35-year-old was hired to Hansi Flick’s staff to act as something of a link between coaching staff and players.
And his influence, as evidenced by the Blaugrana’s stellar campaign en route to La Liga glory, proved to be a positive one.
Hansi Flick and his squad were therefore no doubt disappointed to learn of Thiago’s decision to move on upon the season coming to a close.
As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano, citing Spanish outlet Jijantes:
‘Thiago Alcântara leaves his role at Barcelona in Hansi Flick’s coaching staff. Decision made months ago and now official.’
