Julián Alvarez to Arsenal – The latest

An update on the ongoing transfer saga linking Atlético Madrid star Julián Alvarez with a move to Premier League champions Arsenal has surfaced this weekend.

This comes amid confirmation that the Argentine, as things stand, is standing firm in his refusal to even entertain the possibility of a move back to England.

Alvarez’s future has of course continued to dominate the media headlines across Europe in the days leading up to the summer transfer deadline. With Atlético having publicly announced that they have zero intention of negotiating the attacker’s dream move to La Liga rivals Barcelona, Alvarez has been left in a somewhat difficult spot.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, in turn, have afforded the 26-year-old the opportunity to remove himself from an increasingly ugly situation in Spain’s capital.

If the latest word stemming from England is anything to go by, however, then Alvarez appears to have no intention of taking the Gunners up on their proposal.

Drawn on the futurue of the former Manchester City man during an appearance on TNT Sports on Saturday, market insider David Ornstein of The Athletic explained:

“It’s a low chance that Julián Alvarez comes to Arsenal because he has his heart set on Barcelona. Atlético Madrid have closed the doors to Barcelona – that won’t happen.

“They would do a deal with Arsenal. Arsenal are prepared to reach agreement club-to-club, but they would want the player to want to join them.

“He has spoken to Mikel Arteta and said he doesn’t want to come. That could change, but right now it’s not developing.”
