José Mourinho confirms Real Madrid youngster is now a first-team player: ‘He deserves it’

Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has this weekend confirmed that, as far as he is concerned, Blancos starlet Thiago Pitarch can be considered a permanent member of his squad.

Youngster Pitarch is for his part fresh off something of a breakout campaign in Spain’s capital in 2025/26. Amid a personnel crisis in Real’s engine room ranks, the teen secured for himself a prominent role over the 2nd half of the term.

All told, Pitarch went on to rack up 16 appearances between La Liga and the Champions League, chipping in with a pair of assists along the way.

Despite these exploits, it was at one point this summer suggested that he could be moved on, amid the efforts of the Bernabéu brass to land Bernardo Silva and Rodri.

José Mourinho and his staff, however, ultimately made the call to keep hold of Pitarch with a view to the season ahead. And as alluded to above, this weekend, Real’s headmaster has moved to throw his public backing behind the 19-year-old.

Drawn on the sidelined Pitarch’s status in his squad during an exchange with the media on Saturday, Mourinho confirmed:

“Thiago Pitarch has shown that he deserves to be a first-team player. I really like him. He has so many qualities that I look for.”
